This Insane Last-Second Suplex at the European Wrestling Championships Looked Like It Came Straight Out of Mortal Kombat

Every once in a while, a sports highlight pops up that makes you stop and say, yeah that didn’t look like a real human move.
That’s exactly what happened this week at the U23 European Wrestling Championships in Zrenjanin, Serbia when Russian wrestler Bozigit Islamgereev pulled off what might be one of the most ridiculous last-second throws you’ll ever see.
And I’m not exaggerating when I say it looked like something straight out of Mortal Kombat.
Islamgereev was facing France’s Rakhim Magomedov in freestyle wrestling, and the match was coming down to the wire. Both guys are grinding, fighting for position, the kind of match where you assume it’s going to end in a slow tactical point decision.
Instead, Islamgereev decides it’s time to hit the “finish him” button.
With seconds left, he launches into a full-blown suplex, lifting Magomedov clean off the mat and flipping him backward over his head in one violent, perfectly timed motion. The move sends his opponent crashing down and basically flips the entire match on its head.
If you don’t watch wrestling often, the suplex in freestyle is one of those high-risk, high-reward moves. If you pull it off cleanly, it’s spectacular and can instantly secure the win. If you mess it up, you’re probably the one getting planted into the mat.
Islamgereev chose chaos.
And it worked.
The throw sealed the victory and sent Islamgereev moving forward in the tournament, helping Russia continue a strong showing at the event.
Now, because of the ongoing fallout from the war in Ukraine, Russian athletes are still competing under restrictions from the International Olympic Committee, meaning you won’t see the national flag flying like normal.
But that didn’t stop Russian wrestlers from stacking up strong performances and landing multiple spots in the finals.
