British Woman Who Dreamt Of Cycling Across India Listened To TikTok Advice, Telling Her The Country Is Safe For Women, Boy Did This Stalker Change Her Mind Fast
A British woman has spoken of her sheer terror after being stalked by a man on a bicycle while jogging alone in a remote corner of India – an ordeal she says has shattered her dreams of cycling the length of the country.
Amy, who posts under the name Amy On The Move, was on a run in rural Odisha when she realised a local man was deliberately following her. What began as an unsettling presence quickly escalated into a nightmare as she found herself isolated with nowhere to turn.
In a harrowing video that has since gone viral, the blonde traveller can be heard repeatedly telling the man to “go away, leave me alone” as he trails her along dusty roads and into deserted stretches of countryside. At one point she appears trapped in an empty area with little chance of help, her voice thick with fear as she describes the men in the region as having “something wrong with them.”
Amy, a digital nomad who has spent the past four years travelling across Asia, Africa and Latin America, had arrived in India full of optimism. She planned to cycle from Kolkata all the way down to Kerala and up the west coast, immersing herself in rural life. Instead, the experience left her so shaken she is now considering abandoning the trip entirely.
“I was completely isolated,” she later explained. “I think the only reason the man left in the end is because I made it obvious I was on a video call to a friend and she had a screenshot of him. If I didn’t have my phone, I think he would have attacked me.”
The incident has sparked fierce debate online, with some critics focusing on her choice of clothing – a sports bra suitable for the intense humidity, while others have pointed the finger at the risks of solo female travel in certain parts of India. Amy hit back at the victim-blaming, insisting sports bras are standard running kit and that the problem lies elsewhere.
The video serves as a brutal wake-up call for the growing number of young women inspired by glossy social media content to venture alone into remote destinations. While many travellers report positive experiences in India, Amy’s ordeal highlights the very real dangers that can lurk in less-visited areas, dangers that carefully curated TikTok clips rarely show.
For Amy, the message is clear. What was meant to be an adventure of a lifetime has become a cautionary tale. “I’m pretty tired of India already,” she admitted, “and I’m probably going to leave.”Her narrow escape is a chilling reminder that no amount of online reassurance can replace common sense, local knowledge and extreme caution when travelling alone as a woman in unfamiliar territory.
