Norwegian Olympian Wins Bronze Then Immediately Admits He Cheated on His Girlfriend on Live TV
33 days ago
In what might be the most aggressively European sports moment imaginable, Norwegian biathlete Sturla Holm Lægreid somehow turned a bronze medal at the Winter Olympics into a live, televised relationship therapy session.
Lægreid, a certified snow assassin and two-time gold medalist from the 2022 Beijing Games, took bronze in the men’s 20km biathlon at the 2026 Milan Cortina Olympics. Huge accomplishment. Podium finish. National pride. Cue the interview.
Instead of sticking to the usual script about hard work, skis, and thanking the wax techs, Lægreid looked straight into the camera on Norwegian TV and decided now was the time to confess that he cheated on his girlfriend three months ago.
Not quietly. Not later. Immediately. On live television. While crying.
He called it the biggest mistake of his life and broke down while explaining that the past week had been the worst he’s ever experienced, largely because the couple recently separated. This, again, is happening moments after winning an Olympic medal.
It somehow got even heavier.
Lægreid dedicated the bronze medal to his partner of 18 months, describing her as “the world’s most wonderful person,” which is an absolutely brutal move when you have just admitted to blowing up the relationship yourself. Nothing says emotional whiplash like “I cheated on you” followed immediately by “this medal is for you.”
For context, biathlon is already one of the most unhinged Olympic sports. You ski for miles, stop, shoot a rifle, try not to die, then repeat. Apparently, the emotional regulation skills required do not extend beyond the course.
Either way, Lægreid managed to do something truly special. He won an Olympic medal and immediately made everyone feel deeply uncomfortable.
