There are bad days at work, and then there are “rolled an entire 18-wheeler on my first training shift” bad days.
A viral video making the rounds online shows what happens after a truck driving instructor flips a semi during a training session, leaving both him and the student literally hanging upside down inside the cab while the truck sits on its side in the snow.
The clip, filmed from inside the cab of the overturned truck, captures the aftermath of the crash as the trainer and the rookie driver dangle in their seatbelts like bats. Instead of panicking, the two start laughing about the situation, which honestly might be the only reasonable reaction once your truck is already sideways.
At one point, the instructor delivers the line of the video.
“You know I’m fired.”
And he might not be wrong.
According to the context shared with the clip, the crash happened during a driver training session in snowy conditions, where the instructor was teaching the student how to operate the semi truck. At some point during the lesson the vehicle lost control and rolled over.
Miraculously, both men appear completely fine.
Emergency responders who arrive on scene can be heard speaking with them in the video, confirming that no one was injured, which is honestly the most shocking part of the whole situation, considering an entire semi truck just tipped onto its side.
For anyone wondering how something like this happens, learning to drive a semi is a little different than learning to drive your mom’s Honda Civic. These trucks weigh tens of thousands of pounds, have a high center of gravity, and react very differently in bad weather.
According to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, rollovers account for roughly four percent of injury crashes involving large trucks, often happening during turns, sudden maneuvers, or slippery road conditions.
And if you’re teaching someone who’s never handled an 18-wheeler before, the margin for error gets even smaller.
