Golf superstar Tiger Woods was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence following a dramatic rollover crash near his home in Jupiter Island, authorities have confirmed.
The incident unfolded on Friday afternoon when Woods’ Range Rover was reportedly travelling at high speed along Beach Road, a narrow residential stretch known for limited visibility and tight turns.
According to the Martin County Sheriff's Office, the crash occurred just before 2 p.m. as Woods attempted to overtake a work vehicle.
Officials say the SUV clipped the rear of a trailer attached to a pickup truck that was slowing to turn into a driveway, causing the luxury vehicle to lose control and flip onto its side.
The collision happened roughly four miles from Woods’ residence, sending shockwaves through the quiet coastal community.
Despite the severity of the crash, Woods was able to climb out of the overturned vehicle on his own and did not appear to suffer serious injuries.
However, officers at the scene reportedly noted signs that raised concerns.
Law enforcement officials said Woods “exhibited signs of impairment,” prompting an immediate investigation into his condition at the time of the crash.
Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek said initial observations suggested the driver of the Range Rover may have been impaired, leading to coordination between local agencies, including Jupiter Island police, to assist with the incident.
Authorities later determined that the pickup truck involved had been attempting to turn off the road when it slowed down, while Woods’ vehicle approached rapidly from behind.
The driver of the truck reportedly tried to move aside but was unable to do so due to the narrowness of the road, leaving little room to avoid the impact.
The case remains under investigation as officials work to determine the full circumstances surrounding the crash.
