ARMSTRONG, Ontario – Dramatic footage captured the heart-pounding moment a Canadian train crew found themselves surrounded by a massive wildfire, with flames licking at the tracks as they fought to escape the chaos in Northern Ontario.
The harrowing video, obtained by Breaking911, shows the view from inside the locomotive cab as the train plowed through thick smoke and intense orange flames engulfing both sides of the railway near Armstrong. Dashboard instruments glow under the fiery glow while crew members can be heard urging quick action amid the blaze. At one point, the speed readout hovers near zero as visibility drops to near nothing in the hellish scene.
Officials confirmed the incident unfolded Tuesday amid a massive outbreak of wildfires scorching the region. More than 160 fires are currently burning across Northern Ontario, forcing evacuations in Armstrong and nearby First Nations communities, shutting down rail lines, and knocking out power infrastructure.
The crew's ordeal reportedly began when they stopped to assist a stranded foreman. They detached part of the train, collided with their own consist in the heavy smoke, and ultimately abandoned their hi-rail truck after it caught fire. Miraculously, the entire team escaped on foot, hiking several miles to safety with no injuries reported.
"Views from inside that cab look like something out of a disaster movie," one rail industry source told Fox News. "These guys are heroes for keeping their cool and getting everyone out."
The fires have disrupted Canadian National Railway operations and raised fresh concerns about the vulnerability of critical infrastructure in remote areas. Ontario Provincial Police urged the public to stay clear of affected rail corridors while emergency teams work to contain the blazes.
